Wrapping up Festival Summer, Prepping for the New Season

I wrote about planning a couple of weeks ago… Well, it’s still top of mind! Being a dancer, a choreographer, and a director, there is a multiplicity of how I think about time. I need to be in the present moment during rehearsals, making split-second decisions, responding to variables that arise due to the medium of our art being our physical human bodies. I also maintain a mid-range line of thought that helps me achieve the goals I set out for a season. This includes details like how many hours a piece needs to be rehearsed, ordering or sewing costumes, and a whole slew of creative details that go into show development from September to April. Additionally, I have a long-range view of time where I’m thinking about the arc of my career and the future of Dance Uprising. I ask myself questions like “What’s important to me, and how do I achieve that by running a dance company?” “How do I build longevity for my business?” And so on.

I like clear communication, I thrive on transparency. And I don’t mind at all sharing that I have existential questions I ask myself. I know that I am passionate about dancing, that I feel complete in a unique way when I have a steady dance community. Building a consistent program of company classes, rehearsals, workshops, performances, and other outreach keeps me going. <3

The summer of 2025 has been amazing! We've performed at 4 events so far, and we have 3 more in the month of September alone! Can't wait to get out there and share our art with audiences everywhere!
